Come Sail Away...

Today I caught Lily in the backyard trying to use three umbrellas to fly away in the wind and rain. Her attempt at flight was unsuccessful and she is still with us.

Last Day of Preschool

Today was the last day of Sophie's first year at preschool. Sophie was a little sad but also excited that she would be back next year in a new class with new teachers, a big kid class. Sophie's teachers, Ms. Lori and Ms. Karen, were a little teary and sad to see another class moving on. The kids put on a program, each class singing songs to an audience of parents and friends. After refreshments we said goodbye and see you next yearto our friends.

Snow in May

Today it snowed. Not just cold rain but it has been snowing all morning. The trees are drooping, it is wet and cold and I am really glad my veggies did not get planted yesterday. Hopefully the flowers will survive. Lily wore boots to school, because according to her that's what you do when it snows, even if it is almost June. Right now the forecast for the rest of the week is in the 70's but I'll believe it when I see it.

Leah's Birthday

Life doesn't slow down for birthdays and today was busy enough. School, shopping, and Sophie's school fundraiser "Picnic in the Park" (which was held indoors due to rain). After all was said and done the girls - I thought Chuck was putting them to bed - came back upstairs carrying cupcakes and singing "Happy Birthday". So cute and such beautiful cupcakes. Finally time to relax. Happy Birthday to me!
p.s. The two cupcakes, top row, left are chocolate with peanut butter frosting...my birthday cake of choice (thanks to my Mom for setting a high standard).

Sophie's Soccer Clinic

Sophie just finished up a three session "Learn to Play Soccer" Clinic. It seemed like so little when we signed her up but three sessions is about all she can handle. She's really not quite sure what she's supposed to do but she tries to follow the teacher's instructions and really looks very cute doing it. She so wants to be big and do all the things Lily does so this is a start. Good job Sophie!

Lily and Breckin took part in removing a sick tree from the highly regulated sidewalk of our high regulated historic neighborhood. Keep it on the down lo.

Lily milks a cow

Lily went to her friend David's birthday party at Wheeler Farm here in Salt Lake City. Among other things the kids got to see a cow being milked and try their hand at it. Here is Lily and her friend Logan giving it a try.

Levi Walking

I managed to capture Levi on video walking today. The kids and I were at the library playing in the "Grandma's Attic" room which they love. Levi also loved it and got to practice on the stairs a little. Until he finally bit it and landed on his head. It was worth it!

p.s. Sorry this is sideways. Apparently I don't know how to use the video on my phone properly. Guess I held it the wrong way. I had so much trouble getting this from my phone to the computer, I don't know if there is a way to edit it...deal.

Happy Mother's Day

Chuck and the kids gave me a very lovely Mother's Day this year. They made me a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast, orange slices, and coffee. Everyone was very considerate and well-behaved all day long, even Chuck.I was presented with a lovely orchid which hopefully I will be able to keep alive. After dinner we enjoyed this ice cream cake in the shape of a pink purse. It was delicious! What a lucky mom I am!

Peace, Love & Merry-Go-Rounds

During soccer today, Lily was in front of the net -- ball was in the corner amid heavy traffic.  Two opposing kids kick for the ball... Lily's teammate comes out on top!  The other kid falls down. The ball rolls right toward Lily, all alone with an empty net. Lily runs toward the ball, it's all her, the nets open, easy goal... she runs by the ball into the corner.  She helps the kid on the opposing team stand up, and asks if he's okay.  He is.  She holds his hand and they head back toward the action. Fighting spirit be damned.

Later in the day, I'm alone with Sophie at the grocery store.  As we drove in, the quarter Merry-Go-Round was on. Sophie asked if we could ride it. I responded that I had no quarters.  She correctly replied that it was already on.  I tugged her into the store, assuming it was about to stop.  As we exited, friggin' thing was still going in circles, so I was stuck.

Today Was A Good Day

Lily lost her fourth tooth today at school. She has a huge gaping hole where her front teeth used to be. It's awesome.

In other big news...Levi finally took those steps. He was standing in his room, he saw his dump truck, he walked to get it. Probably only about 4-ish steps but he did the same thing again a couple of more times later in the day. I think he's putting it together.

Today was a good day!

Things Around Here

Levi's ear infection seems to be getting better and hopefully that's the last we'll be 'hearing' of that problem. Despite the recent strep epidemic in Lily's class she remains healthy although Sophie did manage to get it. She is also fully recovered and the rest of the family seems to be on the mend after a seemingly unending string of ailments since we've been home from our Florida vacation. We are really looking forward to some warmer weather and summer fun.

Levi is getting very close to walking though he still guides himself with hands. Here he is enjoying a sunny day with his sisters in the backyard. He was particularly excited to be introduced to the sandbox. Hopefully it can keep him entertained for many hours this summer.
